Elementary Super Kids Day ~ Thursday, May 21 ~ Cancelled

Dear Walters Public School Families,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Saturday, May 16, 2015, a student at our school, died in a tragic accident. Gage Fisher has been a life-time member of the Walters community, so many of our students and community members know him. Gage was a friendly and outgoing student who was loved by many in our school and community.

For those of you who knew Gage, we ask that you remember and celebrate his love for life, friendliness and enthusiasm. For those of you who did not know Gage, we ask that you respect our sadness and support us with your understanding.

It is very difficult for all of us to face the death of a young person. This week, a support team of counselors, ministers, and personnel from Walters Public Schools will work to provide counseling and support to students. Students who need additional support should contact our school counselors or administrators.

Situations such as this may create a variety of reactions ranging from no response, to concern, to many questions. Here are some suggestions for dealing with concerns your child may have:

  • Listen to your child. You may not have all the answers to his/her questions, but your child will benefit from your attention.
  • Provide structure to assist your child in returning to as much of a normal routine as possible.
  • Talk to your child about your personal value system regarding death or loss.

Please feel free to contact the school if you have an issue you would like to discuss.

I know you join me in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Gage's family. When  we receive word regarding funeral arrangements, we will share the information with you.

As a result of the tragedy there will be changes to school activities planned this week. We will communicate these changes as soon as decisions are made through our school website, Facebook page and SchoolWay app.

Again, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any concerns or questions.
